Melcourt Compost is our preferred brand of soil compost. Melcourt Compost is RHS-endorsed and peat-free! Melcourt prides itself on being technology-forward and environmentally conscious within the soil industry.

We stock a good range of Melcourt products at all times, but when some products are unavailable we will have to substitute these products from another supplier.

SylvaGrow Organic Peat-Free Compost

This organic compost is peat-free and made with bark fibres (a product from sustainably managed forests) and other organic materials. Organic compost is ideal for growing herbs, fruits, and vegetables in raised beds, patio containers, or it can be dug into an existing border to improve the soil structure and increase the nutrients ready for planting.

SylvaGrow Peat-Free Multi-Purpose Compost

This multi-purpose compost is peat-free and made with bark fibres (a product from sustainably managed forests) and other organic materials. Multi-purpose compost has many uses as the name suggests. It is good to use in patio pots, window boxes, hanging baskets, and raised beds. SylvaGrow contains 4-6 weeks of nutrients ideal for growing bedding plants and vegetables.

SylvaGrow Rose, Tree, and Shrub Compost

Rose, Tree, and Shrub compost is rich, friable, and carefully formulated planting compost for effective root establishment in garden soils. 100% peat-free and contains a balance of slow-release fertilisers.

SylvaGrow Farmyard

A rich source of organic matter for all soils, adding nutrients, improving fertility and yields, helping soil structure and workability, and aiding water retention. This product can be used the same way as you would manure. Spread around shrubs and roses as mulch, or dig into existing compost for growing vegetables. Vegan friendly. This product is produced through a mechanical process rather than an animal.

Composted Fine Bark

Composted fine bark is an organic-matter-rich soil conditioner, suitable for a wide range of applications in the garden. It can be dug into heavy clay soils to improve the structure and make it easier to work and plant. You can also mulch around fruit and ornamental trees to improve water retention.

Bark Nuggets

These are chunky pieces of bark with a warm colour. These bark nuggets are ideal for use as decorative mulch around trees and shrubs or the entire border. The chunky nature of this bark makes it long-lasting and durable.

Horticultural Sharp Sand

Horticultural sharp sand is an important product to add drainage to soil. It is particularly good to add to lawns to aid drainage and prevent the growth of moss. It can either be brushed into holes in the lawn after spiking with a fork or it can be used to make a lawn top dressing.

To make your own lawn top dressing you will need to mix 6 parts horticultural sand to 3 parts topsoil and 1 part compost.

Horticultural Gravel

Horticultural gravel is very versitile. You can use it to create pathways, top dress rockeries and containers, add to the bottom of the pond, or add it to pots to increase drainage.

Horticultural Potting Grit

Potting grit is a lot finer in size than gravel but can be used in similar ways. Perfect for mixing in with soil to aid drainage, particularly for mediterranean plants like Citrus, Rosemary or for cactus and garden succulents.

NEW Strulch

This entirely British product is made from Wheat Straw and Iron minerals. A lightweight mulch that can be spread around plants in the border or raised bed to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and deter slugs. After being on the bed for the year it can be dug into the border which will help with soil structure and provide nutrients to plants.

Durstons Compost

Multi-Purpose Compost with John Innes

This is a good all-round compost that is ideal for use in patio pots, window boxes, and hanging baskets. For growing bedding plants, perennials and vegetables. Contains up to 6 weeks of nutrients. (Contains Peat)

John Innes No.2

Durstons John Innes is a blend of screened and sterilised loam, Peat and lime-free grit sand. John Innes No.2 has a blend of nutrients which are suited for plants such as Alpines, Hostas, Ferns, Olive trees, Bay trees, Salvias and Verbenas.

Durstons John Innes No.3

Durstons John Innes is a blend of screened and sterilised loam, Peat and lime-free grit sand. John Innes No. 3 has the right balance of nutrients to support hedging plants such as privet and laurel, fruit bushes and fruit trees, shrubs and ornamental trees.

Ericaceous Compost

Ericaceous compost is a specially formulated compost which is acidic in nature with a PH of 5-6. It is also high in organic matter and has good water retention. It is the perfect growing medium for many shade loving plants such as Acers, Azaleas, Camellias, Pieris, as well as Blueberry bushes, Heathers and Ericas.

Enriched TopSoil

A blended top soil containing sterilised loam and added organic matter. High in nurtrients which makes this topsoil very versitile. It can be added to new beds to improve the soil structure, added to raised beds along with compost, fill in and patch spots in the lawn,  or spread out before laying new turf.

Manure

A blend of organic materials with a high nutrient content. Ideal for use as a mulch that can help improve soil structure, water retention and nutrients. Manure is a rich source of nurtients for many plants. It is particularly good for fertilising roses and preparing the soil for a vegetable patch. Manure should be spread on bare soil in the autumn months and then dug in the following spring or it can be spread around existing plants.

Decorative Bark

A decorative bark derived from sustainable forest materials. It can be used to mulch around plants to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and provide roots of plants insulation from cold weather. It also works well as a path or can be placed around garden swings and slides to cushion landings.

10L Compost

These smaller bags of compost are easy to carry and are ideal for projects where you only need a small amount of soil.

Houseplant Focus Repotting Mix

Houseplant Focus growing media has been specifically formulated to promote healthy growth for a wide range of houseplants. This peat-free formula contains composted bark, bark fibres, coir, and sterilised soil. Not to mention a good balance of nutrients.  Although this compost is already free-draining, you could add more drainage with perlite or increase the bark content with Orchid bark to meet your specific houseplant needs.

Cactus & Succulent Focus Repotting Mix

Designed to give a wide range of cactus and succulents the best growing conditions. A blend of coir, sterilised soil, grit, sand and nutrients specifically balanced for cacti and succulents. Peat-Free.

Orchid Focus Repotting Mix

Orchid focus is a bark-based growing media that replicates the natural growing environment of most orchids. The bark holds onto just enough moisture to benefit the orchid without water-logging. Naturally Peat-Free.

We also stock a selection of orchid fertilisers, pots, supports and clips.

Bonsai Focus Repotting Mix

A blend of wood fibre, coir and perlite with a good open structure to promote healthy root growth. The nutrient level is low so that growth levels of you bonsai can be controlled. Suited for both indoor and outdoor Bonsai.

Citrus Focus Repotting Mix

A peat-free blend of wood fibre, coir, and perlite with added nutrients for citrus.  Citrus are hungry plants so they should be fed all year with a citrus feed.

Carnivorous Plant Focus

Designed for the best results with a wide range of carnivorous plants. Formulated to replicate the typical wetland soil, with high moisture retention and ultra-low mineral nutrients, to promote healthy growth of carnivorous plants.
